The National Theatre of Opera and Ballet "Oleg Danovski" Constanța presents "Cavalleria rusticana" and "Pagliacci"

In the 2026-2027 season, the "Oleg Danovski" National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Constanța invites the public to an evening dedicated to Italian verismo, by presenting two of the most powerful and beloved one-act operas: "Cavalleria rusticana" by Pietro Mascagni and "Pagliacci" by Ruggero Leoncavallo.

The performance will take place on Sunday, October 18, 2026, starting at 18:30, on the stage of the Constanța Trade Union Culture House.

The two masterpieces of the verismo repertoire offer intense stories, in which passion, jealousy, betrayal, and destiny meet in a dramatic universe of strong emotional force.

"Cavalleria rusticana" by Pietro Mascagni

Considered one of the defining works of Italian verismo, „Cavalleria rusticana” captures with authenticity and intensity the passions and conflicts of a Sicilian community. Mascagni's music closely follows the dramatic tension, building moments of profound expressiveness and culminating in a tragic finale. In the main roles will be: Lucia Mihalache, Doru Iftene, Gabriela Dobre, Cristian Caragea, Ana Mladinovici

„Pagliacci” by Ruggero Leoncavallo

The second part of the series is dedicated to the opera „Pagliacci”, one of the most representative creations of Ruggero Leoncavallo and one of the fundamental works of the verismo repertoire.

The story of the troupe of traveling actors, in which the boundary between stage and real life dramatically dissolves, offers the audience an opera of extraordinary intensity, in which love, jealousy, and revenge transform the performance into a confrontation with one's own human passions. The cast includes: Daniel Magdal - Bucharest, Nicoleta Ardelean, Daniel Pop, Mădălin Băldău, Marius Eftimie

The musical direction of the performance will be provided by Adrian Morar - Cluj, alongside the Orchestra and Choir of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre „Oleg Danovski” Constanța.

Through this double performance, the National Opera and Ballet Theatre „Oleg Danovski” offers the public an encounter with two fundamental titles of the lyrical repertoire, in a show built around the expressive power of music and the authenticity of human experiences.

„Cavalleria rusticana” and „Pagliacci” are two stories about love and passion, but also about the fragility of the human being in the face of jealousy, honor, and destiny. Two operas different in universe, but united by the intensity of emotion and by that dramatic force that consecrated Italian verismo on the great stages of the world.
