"Pearl Fishers" - passion, sacrifice, and destiny on the Constanta stage
The National Opera and Ballet Theatre „Oleg Danovski” Constanța continues the 2026-2027 season with a new encounter with the great titles of the universal lyric repertoire: „The Pearl Fishers” by Georges Bizet, one of the operas that consecrated the melodic sensibility and dramatic force of the French composer.
The performance will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 6:30 PM, on the stage of the Constanța Trade Union House of Culture, and offers the audience a journey into an exotic world, dominated by love, friendship, vows, and soul conflicts.
In "The Pearl Fishers", Georges Bizet builds a story in which the characters' feelings become stronger than conventions and in which every choice can definitively change the destiny of those involved. Created in 1863, Bizet's opera stands out for the beauty of its melodic lines, its exotic atmosphere, and the intensity of its dramatic scenes. The story of Nadir, Zurga, and Leila brings to the forefront an impossible love, threatened by loyalty, jealousy, and sacrifice, and the famous duet between Nadir and Zurga remains one of the landmark pieces of the operatic repertoire.
At the conductor's podium will be Tiberiu Dragoș Oprea, who will lead the musical unfolding of the performance and will support the dialogue between the soloists and the orchestral ensemble. The cast includes: Mădălin Băldău – debut, Laura Eftimie and Cristian Caragea.
By presenting the opera „The Pearl Fishers”, the National Opera and Ballet Theatre „Oleg Danovski” Constanța continues its mission to bring representative performances of the universal lyric heritage to the public and to create contexts in which established artists and young performers meet on the same stage.
