On the 165th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian playwright A. P. Chekhov, Beatrice Rancea brings back to the stage “Wedding”, in a new version, 30 years after her directorial debut with the same play. The previous production received numerous awards, audience and critical acclaim alike, and was picked up by Romanian Television. In this new staging, Beatrice Rancea spectacularly combines situational, character, and verbal comedy, offering a performance full of rhythm and energy, with live musical moments, and a captivating scenic universe, where humor and melancholy intertwine in a refined dance of emotions. The new production from the Independent Theater Luceafărul offers not only a grand spectacle but also an impressive cast: Radu Gheorghe, Monica Dobrișan, Cristi Toma, Vlad Lință, Cristina Constantinescu, Andrei Vasilescu, Mircea Constantinescu, Mihai Baranga, Bogdan Costea, Andra Iulia Stoicescu, Meda Topîrceanu, Mihai Căpățână, Andrei Barbu, Andrei Cojanu, and the extraordinary participation of soprano Arlinda Morava.

The show begins with classic wedding elements – a happy bride, a worried and impatient groom, a pair of anxious parents, and various colorful guests, each with their own story. However, the drama is just beginning, centering on Dashenka and Epaminond Maximovici Aplombov, the brides of a wedding that gradually transforms into a space of conflicts among the other participants in the “happy” event. The bride’s parents, Nastasia Timofeevna and Evdokim Zaharovici Jigalov, accuse each other in front of their daughter, the greedy groom becomes furious when his financial demands and the promises of his in-laws remain unfulfilled, while the bride gives up the happiness of the most beautiful day of her life for the drama of an unloved and abandoned woman. However, everything seems to be forgotten when a much-anticipated but false general makes his appearance at the wedding.

Thus, “Wedding” after A.P. Chekhov, staged by director Beatrice Rancea, with scenography designed by Ioana Colceag, promises the audience a dose of laughter mixed with tears, as well as a profound reflection on the world we live in, transforming the performance into one that theater lovers cannot miss.
